The main takeaways, moments and more that determined the outcome of Sundays game between Falcons and Colts.

BERLINIn Sunday's first regular-season NFL game at historic Olympic Stadium in Germany, the Atlanta Falcons lost to the Indianapolis Colts in overtime in an eventful overseas matchup.

Final score:31-25

Why it's important:The Falcons have now lost four consecutive games and will take a 3-6 record into Week 11. It's not the kind of momentum the Falcons want to carry into their next two games, with a pair of NFC South matchups on tap. The Falcons first host the Carolina Panthers, who they lost to earlier this season, and then play the New Orleans Saints for the first time in the season. This loss puts the Falcons further behind in the playoff hunt.

Key takeaway: The Colts' explosiveness on offense hurt the Falcons early, and the impact was enough to carry Indianapolis through the game. Atlanta allowed seven plays of 10 or more yards in the first quarter, and Indianapolis scored 13 points as a result. Those seven plays marked the most the Falcons have allowed this season in any first quarter. The previous high was four.

  • Background: The Colts entered Sunday's game with 127 plays of 10 or more yards, which tied for best in the NFL. They were ninth in plays of 20 or more yards and first in plays of 50 yards or more.

Key moment:Colts running back Jonathan Taylor scored on an 83-yard run in the fourth quarter, giving Indianapolis back the lead late. It was the longest run in all of the NFL this season. Falcons running back Bijan Robinson's 81-yard touchdown run in Atlanta's Week 6 win against the Buffalo Bills was the previous long.

Standout performance: Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. The Falcons' edge rushers and first-round draft picks tag-teamed a strip sack and fumble recovery for the second game in a row. In Week 9, Walker sacked and forced a fumble from New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. Pearce recovered the loose ball. In Week 10, roles reversed. Pearce sacked Colts quarterback Daniel Jones. Walker recovered the resulting fumble.

Number to know:0-of-8. The Falcons continued to struggle on third down, not converting a single one throughout their four quarters and change of work. They've converted just eight of 40 in their last four games. That's a 20% success rate.

  • More:To be fair, the Falcons were 3-for-3 in the red zone.

Player milestones:

  • Tight end Charlie Woerner's 14-yard reception in the second quarter was the fourth longest of his career. His longest a 27-yarder also came against the Colts, when Woerner played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021. The 49ers lost that Week 7 game, 30-18.
  • Wide receiver Drake London scored on a 16-yard reception in the second quarter, giving him a career-high four touchdowns in the last two games. That ties for most receiving touchdowns by a Falcons player in a two-game stretch since wide receiver Calvin Ridley in 2020. London and Ridley are two of seven Falcons to ever accomplish this feat.
  • Safety Jessie Bates III picked off Colts quarterback Daniel Jones in the second quarter, giving him 26 interceptions in his career, which is the fourth most among all active NFL players.

Injury updates:

  • Defensive lineman Sam Roberts left the game with an ankle injury in the first quarter and was deemed questionable to return.
  • Cornerback Dee Aflord was evaluated for a possible concussion in the first quarter and ruled out in the second quarter. Alford started in place of Mike Hughes, who did not play due to his own injury. Keith Taylor filled in after Aflord's departure.
  • Wide receiver Drake London was evaluated for a concussion in the second quarter after his touchdown catch and was cleared to return.
  • Linebacker and special teamer DeAngelo Malone was ruled out with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.

A quick tweet:The Falcons editorial staff of Tori McElhaney, Will McFadden and Terrin Waack share their gut reactions to Sunday's outcome in 280 characters or less.

  • McElhaney: The Falcons were 0 for 8 on third down Sunday. They were 1 for 10 last week. They had a 25% conversion rate in their last three losses. It dropped even closer to 20% in Germany. This is not sustainable.
  • McFadden: Atlanta's defense has been consistent when the team needs it most. The same can't be said for the other two units.
  • Waack: Can we go to Germany every year? That was an incredible environment and an incredible game.

Settling the storylines:

  • Check out the Falcons'Week 10 inactivesandpractice squad elevations.
  • Running back Bijan Robinson is the Falcons'gateway to global fandom, but wins will keep international fans watching.
  • The Falcons arrived in Berlin withan urgency to win.
  • The Falcons' defense faced the tall task of stopping,or at least slowing down, Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, who entered Sunday's game as the No. 1 rusher in the NFL.
  • The Colts traded forcornerback Sauce Gardnerduring Week 10, and he was in the starting lineup for Indianapolis on Sunday.
  • The Falconssigned their third kickerthis season in Zane Gonzalez, who made his Falcons debut in the first quarter with a successful extra point at the 6:07 mark.
  • Falconsedge rusher Jalon Walkerwas named the NFL's Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week after his Week 9 performance.
